GREENCASTLE, Ind. -- No. 22 ranked DePauw University moved to 4-0 on the men's basketball season with a 77-58 victory over Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in the renewal of an in-state rivalry on Tuesday night.
Luke Lattner led four DePauw players in double figures with 14 points. Tommy Fernitz added 12 points and 13 rebounds, Bob Dillon scored 11 points and Frank Patton III had 10 for the nationally ranked Tigers.
Senior Corey Povaleri led the Rose-Hulman offense with a career-high 17 points. Junior Tyler Duffy added 12 points and six rebounds, while junior Jimmy Miller contributed eight points and seven boards to the Fightin' Engineer effort.
Rose-Hulman jumped out to an early 6-1 lead, before the Tigers answered with a 15-0 run to gain a 16-6 advantage. The Fightin' Engineers played its part in the rivalry by rallying to with a 10-2 run of its own to close within 18-16 on a free throw by junior Mitch Williams.
The Engineers remained within 33-27 late in the first half, but the Tigers ended the first half on a 35-foot three-pointer by Patton III at the buzzer to push its edge to 36-27.
Rose-Hulman continued to battle DePauw in the second half, moving to within 44-39 on a layup by sophomore Collin Wojcik at the 12:57 mark. DePauw answered with a run that eventually pushed the lead to 68-48 with 5:44 left.
DePauw improved to 4-0 on the season, while Rose-Hulman dropped to 0-3. The Fightin' Engineers return to action at Wabash College on Sunday at 3 p.m.
