Volleyball Heads to Hanover for HCAC Tourney Opener

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology hits the road for Hanover College and the opening round of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Volleyball Tournament on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

The Fightin' Engineers completed the regular season at 14-16 overall and 5-4 in HCAC play, while Hanover compiled a 16-16 mark and was 6-3 in conference matches.  Sophomore Morgan Dreyer led the Fightin' Engineers with 209 kills and was second on the team with 467 assists, while junior Sarah Jensen had 208 kills and led the squad with 501 assists.

Sophomore Emily McLendon ranked as the team's leader with 108 blocks, followed by freshman Mackenzie Gossard with 80.  Freshman Becca Poppel provided hitting depth with 191 kills, and senior Briana Harvey has pitched in with 110 kills and is second on the team with 357 digs.

Defensively, freshman Gabi Razma ranks among the NCAA Division III national top 10 with 641 digs (5.72/set) this season.  Junior Kali Nordquist has also crossed the 100-digs mark this fall.

Hanover is led offensively by Rachel Regenauer (250 kills) and Rachel Hasewinkel (197 kills), along with Kristin Goben (187 kills) and Courtney Crawford (167 kills) in a balanced attack.  Shelby Hart (553) and Julia Bursova (436) have combined for nearly 1,000 assists, while Maddie Hartman paces the team with 500 digs.  Crawford has a team-high 93 blocks.

Admission to the match, set by the HCAC, is $8 for adults, $5 for senior citizens and students, and free for children under the age of 11 years old. All students, faculty, and staff members from both conference schools will receive free admission by showing their college ID.

The winner of Wednesday's match will travel to Defiance College for the semifinal round on Saturday.  Bluffton University, the No. 2 seed, awaits the winner at 5 p.m. on Saturday in the semifinals in a match held at Defiance.  The championship match also takes place at Defiance on Sunday at 1 p.m.
