HANOVER, Ind. - The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology volleyball team saw its season come to an end with a 25-17, 27-25, 14-25, 25-20 loss at Hanover College in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Tournament opening round Wednesday, Nov. 5.
The first was back and forth early on. The two teams were tied at 17 until Hanover won the final eight points to take the first set.
The Engineers had four set points in the second set, but once again, the Panthers stormed back to tie the set at 24-24. Hanover ultimately won the set 27-25.
Rose-Hulman responded by winning set three handily, finishing it on a 10-2 run. The Engineers hit a .167 clip in the set while holding Hanover to a negative hitting percentage.
For the first time in the match, Hanover took the lead in set four. Rose-Hulman got within a single point at 21-20, but could not complete the comeback.
Sophomore Emily McLendon led the Engineers offensively hitting .421 with ten kills. Junior Morgan Dreyer added nine kills while junior Sarah Jensen tallied eight. Jensen and Dreyer also shared the setting duties, dishing out 22 and 14 assists respectively.
Defensively, freshman Mackenzie Gossard led the way with three block assists while Dreyer added two. Freshman libero Gabi Razma totaled 25 digs in the contest.
In total, Rose-Hulman hit a .167 clip for the match while Hanover hit .183.
The loss marked the first time Rose-Hulman had lost to Hanover in three meetings this season. The Engineers conclude their 2014 season with a 14-17 record overall including a 5-4 mark in HCAC play.
Briana Harvey, Rose-Hulman's lone senior, finishes her career with a 74-53 overall record including a 24-12 mark in HCAC competition. The Clinton, Ind., native's career also including the program's first ever trip to the NCAA III Women's Volleyball Tournament in 2011.
