CHICAGO, Ill. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology won its fifth straight game entering the team's Holiday Break with a convincing 73-42 men's basketball victory at Illinois Institute of Technology on Saturday.
Rose-Hulman shot 47% from the field and hit 8-13 three-point attempts to build a 47-24 halftime advantage, then relied on a balanced scoring attack in the second half to secure the victory.
Sophomore Collin Wojcik led the Fightin' Engineers with 11 points on 3-5 from three-point range. Senior Corey Povaleri also reached double figures with 10 points.
Rose-Hulman played all 16 players in uniform and 12 dented the scoring column in the performance. Junior Matt Loesing scored eight points and sophomore Wade Stallings pitched in with seven points.
The balance continued with junior Jimmy Miller, junior Dillon Reynolds, junior Mitch Williams and freshman Stephen Schueth pitching in with six points each.
The shooting performance from three-point range proved a key, as Rose-Hulman hit a season-high 11 treys on 21 attempts. Rose-Hulman also won the rebounding battle 37-30 and held the Scarlet Hawks to just 37% from the field. Samuel Rarick led Illinois Tech with 22 points and 11 rebounds.
Rose-Hulman jumped out to a 29-10 lead midway through the first half after a score by Miller. After the Scarlet Hawks closed within 29-15, the Engineers relied on a 13-4 run to secure a 42-19 lead late in the first half after a three-pointer by Wojcik.
Rose-Hulman improved to 6-4 on the season and has a 2-1 mark in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play at the team's Holiday Break. The Fightin' Engineers return to action at Bluffton University on Jan. 3.
