TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology senior Michael Hallstein scored a game winning layup at the buzzer as the Fightin' Engineers defeated Transylvania University 67-66 in men's basketball action on Saturday afternoon.

Rose-Hulman led by as many as 12 (27-15) in the first half when junior Tyler Duffy scored two of his career-high 21 points on a fast break dunk. The Pioneers would cut the lead in half as the Engineers took a 37-31 advantage into halftime.

The Engineers held the lead for the first 12 minutes of the second half until Alex Jones sank two free throws to give Transylvania a 54-53 edge. Rose-Hulman responded by scoring on four of its next six possessions, three of which came from offensive rebounds, to take a 61-58 lead.

Teams traded baskets until the Pioneers converted on consecutive possessions to get within a single point (65-64) with 1:07 left. Parker Stansberry then connected on a six-foot jumper to give Transylvania the 66-65 advantage.

Transylvania led 66-65 with 2.8 seconds left, when a full court pass from Rose-Hulman was deflected out of bounds at the Fightin' Engineer bench with 1.2 seconds left.  Freshman Kyle Steckel then lofted a pass to Hallstein for the game-winning score.

Along with Duffy's 21 points, the senior Corey Povaleri chipped in 13 points to go along with six rebounds. Sophomore Wade Stallings finished with three points, seven rebounds, five assists, and one steal. Along with the game-winning basket, Hallstein poured in ten points and four rebounds.

As a team, the Engineers held a 36-29 rebounding advantage. In addition, Rose-Hulman scored 38 points in the point compared to 30 for Transylvania.

Rose-Hulman improved to 2-4 on the season and 1-1 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) play, while Transylvania dropped to 0-5 and 0-2 in league play.  The Fightin' Engineers host Millikin University in a non-conference game on Wednesday night.
