AUBURNDALE, FLA. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology stands 2-2 on its annual Florida baseball spring trip after falling 15-2 to St. John Fisher on Wednesday afternoon.
Shawn Corrigan and Jalen Dennis combined on a three-hitter for St. John Fisher, with Corrigan recording four strikeouts in the victory.
Senior Andrew Benitez (Mililani, Hawaii) and freshman Ryan Fontana (Grayslake, Ill./Central) led the Fightin' Engineers with one hit and one RBI. Benitez slapped a double to score sophomore Josh Koutnik (Mount Prospect, Ill./Hersey) and tie the score at 1-1 in the top of the second inning.
The teams remained tied 1-1 after three innings, with a third inning rally from St. John Fisher thwartened by an inning ending caught stealing on a strong throw from freshman Zach Trusk (Plainfield, Ill./North).
St. John Fisher broke the game open with nine runs in the fourth and added five more in the fifth. Brad Rush had a home run and Nick Flemister finished 4-4 with three RBIs to lead the St. John Fisher offense.
Rose-Hulman has a record of 2-2 on its annual spring trip to Florida. The Fightin' Engineers return to the diamond at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday for a matchup against in-state foe Trine University.
