Baseball Shuts Out Wabash 2-0

TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology sophomore Daniel Sutherland (Centennial, Colo./Regis Jesuit) tossed a two-hitter over seven innings to lead the Fightin' Engineer baseball team past Wabash 2-0 on Wednesday night.

Sutherland allowed just two singles and two walks with four strikeouts to help Rose-Hulman toss its third shutout of the year.  Sophomore Karson Nixon (Jasper, Ind.) tossed a scoreless eighth, before sophomore Alec McNally (Geneva, Ill./Wheaton Academy) pitched the ninth for his ninth save of the season.

Sophomore Caleb Kissel (Plainfield, Ill./North) had two singles to lead the Engineer offense, while senior Andrew Benitez (Mililani, Hawaii) and junior Josh Hoeing (Rushville, Ind.) had one single and one run each.

Alan Corey scattered five hits over five innings of work, allowing one earned run, to lead the Wabash performance.

Rose-Hulman scored both of its runs in the fifth inning.  Benitez singled and later scored on a single by sophomore Nevin Fansher (Noblesville, Ind.).  The second run came home on an RBI single by freshman Drew Schnitz (Huntington, Ind.) that scored Hoeing.

The Fightin' Engineers improved to 17-9 on the season, while Wabash dropped to 15-10.  Rose-Hulman hosts Earlham on Friday night to open a three-game Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference series.
