GREENCASTLE, Ind. - The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology volleyball team split two matches at the DePauw Tigers Invitational Saturday, Sept. 13. The Fightin' Engineers fell to Baldwin-Wallace 25-23, 24-26, 25-20, 29-27 before rebounding to defeat Concordia-Chicago in straights 25-23, 25-19, 25-14.
In the loss to Baldwin-Wallace, Rose-Hulman hit a .190 clip in the match totaling 54 kills. Freshman Becca Poppel led the Engineers with 17 kills on 45 attack attempts to go along with six service aces. Junior Sarah Jensen dished out 29 assists while sophomore Morgan Dreyer added 15 assists with her nine kills.
Five Engineers tallied double-digit digs in the four-set loss with freshman Gabi Rezma leading the way with 23 digs. Senior Briana Harvey added eight kills to go along with 22 digs. Freshman Mackenzie Gossard led the team with five block assists while sophomore Emily McLendon added two solo blocks to go along with three block assists.
In the victory over Concordia-Chicago, McLendon led Rose-Hulman with six kills while Poppel and Raycraft tallied five kills. Jensen and Dreyer dished out 14 and 11 assists respectively. Defensively, Rezma recorded 16 digs.
As a team, Rose-Hulman hit a .204 clip with 34 kills and 12 errors on 108 attack attempts. The Engineers recdorded six service aces while recording 11 block assists.
McLendon was named to the all-tournament team.
Rose-Hulman now stands at 7-6 on the season. The Engineers return to action next weekend for a tournament in Bloomington, Ill. Rose-Hulman will play Knox and Dominican on Sept. 19 followed by Monmouth and St. Xavier on Sept. 20.
