ANGOLA, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology improved to 2-1 on the season with a 5-4 win over Trine and a 6-3 victory over Olivet in women's tennis action on Sunday in Northern Indiana.
In the opener against Trine, sophomore Sydney Short proved the difference in the 5-4 victory. With the match tied at 4-4, Short claimed a 10-8 victory in a third set match tiebreak to give the Fightin' Engineers their first win of the season.
Freshman Isabella Evans led the performance with wins at No. 1 singles and teaming with senior Kylie McCollum at No. 1 doubles. The second doubles team of Short and junior Lauren Miller also claimed a victory.
Miller joined Short with a perfect 2-0 record in a victory at the No. 4 singles position.
Against Olivet, Miller and Short once again teamed for a victory at the No. 2 doubles position. Miller completed a perfect day at 2-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles play with a victory at the No. 4 spot.
Sophomore Becca Stanley also compiled a 2-0 record with wins at No. 5 singles and at No. 3 doubles in teaming with freshman Paige Bateman. Sophomore Lauren Edwards added the final victory of the day in singles play against Olivet.
Rose-Hulman returns to action at Mount St. Joseph on Saturday.
