TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology volleyball team travels to Bloomington, Ill., for the Barker Chevrolet Volleyball Classic Friday and Saturday. The Fightin' Engineers will play Knox College and Dominican University at 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. respectively followed by Monmouth College and St. Xavier University at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. respectively.
Rose-Hulman enters the weekend with a 7-6 mark after posting a 2-2 record at the DePauw Invitational last weekend. The Engineers defeated Hanover 3-2 (non-conference match) and Concordia Chicago 3-0 and fell to then No. 25 Millikin 3-0 and to Ohio Athletic Conference member Baldwin-Wallace 3-1.
Rose-Hulman enters the weekend hitting a .147 clip as a team. Sophomore Morgan Dreyer leads the team in kills with 97 and assists with 216. Freshman libero Gabi Razma leads the team in digs with 254 with sophomore Emily McLendon leads Rose-Hulman in blocks with 49.
Knox College enters the weekend with a 2-13 record. The Prairie Fire has victories over Eureka and Macalester. Dominican University, a Northern College Athletics Conference member, sits at 6-5 on the season. The Stars have victories over the University of Chicago 3-1 as well as Aurora University 3-2.
Monmouth College sits with a 5-7 record. The Fighting Scots have lost three of their last four games. St. Xavier, Rose-Hulman's final opponent of the weekend, has a 5-8 record through 12 matches of the 2014 season. The Cougars, who are members of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), have lost four of five matches, but most recently beat Trinity International 3-0.
Rose-Hulman begins Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) play Saturday, Sept. 27 at Mount St. Joseph. The match is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
