TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology won 13 total events to sweep both the men's and women's team titles at the Friday Night Track and Field Invitational at the Sports & Recreation Center.
The women's team earned two individual event victories and two relay wins to lead the squad to victory in a six-team meet. The men won nine total events to outdistance four in-state foes to win the team scoring.
Two freshmen led the women's effort with one individual win and two relay victories each. Freshman Jaclyn Setina won the high jump with a leap of 5' 3", while freshman Gabi Razma won the triple jump with a mark of 34' 7 1/2". The duo also combined with sophomore Christine Harper and junior Addie Johnson to sweep the 4-x-200 (1:52.59) and 4-x-400 (4:16.97) meter relays.
On the men's side, sophomore Brendan Smyth won the long jump (20' 0 1/2") and the triple jump (41' 6 1/2") to lead six event victories. Sophomore Josh Blome added a field event win in the pole vault with a career-best mark of 15' 0".
In track events, four individuals captured top honors to lead the balanced attack. Junior Brandon Loyer won the mile in 4:27.71, senior Stuart West claimed the 800-meter run in 2:01.70, sophomore Isaiah Smith earned top honors in the 60-meter hurdles (8.70) and freshman Jordan Moothery won the 60-meter dash (7.17 seconds).
The 4-x-200 meter relay team of Adam Wilson, Smith, Brayden Betz and Grady McGoff earned a victory with a time of 1:32.89, and the Fightin' Engineers capped the meet with a victory in an intrasquad 4-x-400 meter relay.
In addition, senior Blake Schulthies competed in the heptathlon at Indiana University on Friday and Saturday. His score of 4,520 currently ranks among the national leaders in NCAA Division III statistics.
Rose-Hulman returns to action with its largest home meet of the indoor season, the Engineer Invitational, on Jan. 31.
