TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology placed second of 11 men's teams and came home eighth on the women's side at the 12th Engineer Indoor Track and Field Invitational at the Sports and Recreation Center on Saturday.

Rose-Hulman's tally for the day included two first-place finishes, five runner-ups, and five third-place finishes. 

The Fightin' Engineers placed second as a team on the men's side in a meet that featured No. 4 ranked Wabash, No. 9 ranked Washington University, No. 10 Rose-Hulman and two NCAA Division II programs.  Wabash won the meet with 178 points, followed by Rose-Hulman at 140 points and Washington University at 112 points.

Sophomore Brendon Mattiuz led the men's performance with a win in the 800-meter run in a time of 1:57.16 that ranks fourth in Rose-Hulman school history.  Freshman Jaclyn Setina added a victory for the women's squad by clearing the high jump with a mark of 5' 2 1/4".

Junior Jacob Becker led the runner-up performers with a school record in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:10.37.  Freshman Josh Hennig added another running event second-place finish with a time of 51.92 seconds in the 400-meter dash. 

Throwing event runner-ups included sophomore Charles Spaeth in the shot put (49' 4 1/2") and senior Zac Erba in the weight throw (50' 8 1/4").  Freshman Gabi Razma added a second place for the women's side with a triple jump mark of 34' 7 3/4".

Third-place finishers included sophomore Andrew Okruch in the shot put (49' 1 1/2"); senior Austin Schulthies in the high jump (6' 3 1/4"); senior Blake Schulthies in the 400-meter dash (51.95); and sophomore Brendan Smyth in the triple jump (42' 9").  The men's 4-x-200 meter relay team of Adam Wilson, Isaiah Smith, Brayden Betz and Hennig also came home third in 1:32.47.

Prior to the competition, Rose-Hulman honored a total of 14 seniors for their contributions to the track and field program.  A photo gallery from senior day is available above. 

Rose-Hulman returns to action at the Ohio Northern University Invitational next Saturday.
