TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - For the second time this season, the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's basketball team defeated Anderson University. The Fightin' Engineers won 45-37 at Anderson on Dec. 17 and followed up that victory with a 58-42 win at Hulbert Arena on Wednesday, Dec. 28.

Rose-Hulman built an advantage early, allowing the Ravens to score just five points in the opening 14 minutes. The Engineers eventually took a 32-15 advantage into halftime. Anderson would outscore Rose-Hulman 27-26 in the second half, but the Engineers held a double-digit lead the entire period.

Sophomore Josie Schmidt led Rose-Hulman offensively scoring 12 points and grabbing five rebounds off of the bench. Junior Carrie Morris added 10 points and five rebounds. Senior Gracie Gibbs turned in eight points and six rebounds in her return to the starting lineup, while sophomore Kristen Belyea scored five points and grabbed five steals. Fellow sophomore Abbie Marshall led the Engineers in the assist column, dishing out four assists.

Anderson was led by Shelby Shaffer who scored 13 points off of the bench.

As a team, Rose-Hulman dominated the glass, outrebounding Anderson 40-24. In addition, the Engineers scored 21 of their 58 points in the paint. Rose-Hulman converted 19-41 field goals attempts and connected on 18-27 shots from the free throw line.

With the win, Rose-Hulman improves to 10-8 on the season, matching its wins total from the entire 2013-14 season. The Engineers also stand at 6-5 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) play with seven regular season contests remaining. The next of these comes at Defiance at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 31.
