Men's Soccer Clinches HCAC Tourney Bid with Win

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology clinched a bid to the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament with a 3-0 victory at Anderson University on Wednesday afternoon.

The Fightin' Engineers improved to 11-2-4 overall and 6-0-2 in HCAC play with the win.  Rose-Hulman secured a first-round home game in next week's four-team HCAC Tournament, which includes semifinal action on Tuesday and the championship game next Saturday.

Rose-Hulman would clinch at least a share of the HCAC regular season championship with a win at Bluffton on Saturday.  The Fightin' Engineers need a win at Bluffton and either a loss or tie by Hanover in Saturday's matchup with Defiance to earn the No. 1 seed for next week's tournament.

Junior Ben Lyon led the Rose-Hulman with two goals, and junior Alex Jansen added one goal.  The Fightin' Engineers controlled much of the action, with goalkeepers Carter Wright and Michael Lawrence combining on the shutout.

Lyon scored in the 15th minute on an unassisted score.  Jansen pushed the lead to 2-0 on an assist from Lyon in the 24th minute.  The last insurance goal came 12 minutes into the second half, when Lyon scored his seventh goal of the season on a pass from Ross Klauer.

Rose-Hulman extended its number of matches without a loss to 11.  The Fightin' Engineers have a record of 7-0-4 over the 11-match streak.

Rose-Hulman outshot Anderson 15-6, and Lyon led the offensive attack with six shots.

Rose-Hulman travels to Bluffton for the regular season finale on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.  Anderson dropped to 3-10-4 overall and 2-4-2 in league play.
