ANDERSON, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology kept its Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference women's soccer tournament hopes alive with a 1-0 win at Anderson University on Wednesday night.
Freshman Samantha Jacobs scored the lone goal in the 36th minute, courtesy of an assist from sophomore Carolyn Donohoe. The Fightin' Engineers relied on a team defensive effort to record the shutout and the win.
Rose-Hulman needs a victory on Saturday at Bluffton, and needs Anderson to win or tie against Transylvania on Saturday to qualify for the four-team HCAC Tournament.
Senior Lucinda Combs recorded the shutout in goal for Rose-Hulman with six saves to lead the defensive performance. Anderson outshot the Fightin' Engineers 16-8 in the contest, with Kirby Kern and Corie Ewoldt recorded two shots each.
Rose-Hulman improved to 8-9 overall and 4-4 in league play, while Anderson fell to 7-8 and 3-5 in conference matches. The Fightin' Engineers conclude the regular season at Bluffton on Saturday.
