TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology can earn at least a share of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference men's soccer regular season championship with a win at Bluffton University in the regular season finale on Saturday at 3:30.
Rose-Hulman stands 11-2-4 overall and 6-0-2 in HCAC play. The Fightin' Engineers would secure a share of the HCAC regular season title with a win, and would earn the outright championship with a win and a loss or draw by Hanover on Saturday.
Hanover receives the HCAC Tournament top seed with a win at Defiance on Saturday, but the Fightin' Engineers would claim the No. 1 spot with a victory and a loss or draw by Hanover. Either way, Rose-Hulman has clinched a semifinal round home game for the HCAC Tournament that will take place on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Intramural Field.
Juniors Ben Lyon and Alex Jansen lead the Rose-Hulman with seven goals each this season. Senior Dieter Schultz has a team-high six assists, followed by Lyon (five) and Jansen (four).
The Fightin' Engineers have outscored the opposition 35-15 so far this season. Goalkeepers Carter Wright and Michael Lawrence have combined for a 0.83 goals against average, 69 saves and seven shutouts this year.
Bluffton stands 0-6-2 in conference play entering Saturday's matchup. John Eckenrode leads Bluffton's offense with five goals this season.
