ALBION, Mich. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology improved to 2-0 in women's basketball for the first time since the 2006-07 season with a 57-54 victory over Oberlin College on Saturday in the Albion Invitational.
Junior Josie Schmidt led a balanced attack with 13 points. Sschmidt added four rebounds and three assists for the Engineers.
Junior Abbie Marshall and freshman Ally Bromenschenkel contributed eight points each. Marshall grabbed nine rebounds and added three assist, while Bromenschenkel was 3-6 from the field with five rebounds.
Senior Cassidy Cain and sophomore Shelby Julian pitched in with seven points each. Both players were 3-4 from the field and Cain had two assists.
The Fightin' Engineers relied on a strong defensive performance for the second consecutive day to earn the win. Lindsey Bernhardt led all scorers with 29 points for Oberlin, and Alexandra Stipano added 18 points.
Oberlin shot just 33% from the field, and Rose-Hulman gained extra possessions with just eight turnovers and a +3 rebounding margin.
Rose-Hulman stands 2-0 for the first time in nine years heading into next weekend's Marietta College Invitational. The Fightin' Engineers will face Case Western Reserve University on Saturday night (Nov. 28), then face either Hiram or Marietta on Sunday.
