TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology advanced to the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Championship Game with a 2-0 victory over Earlham College on Wednesday night.
Sophomore Trevor Bednarek scored in the 35th minute, and sophomore Austin Webb added an insurance goal in the 56th minute as Rose-Hulman advanced to the HCAC championship game for the third consecutive year.
Bednarek finished a scramble play that started with freshman Erik Eksten firing a shot off the post. The rebound score put the Engineers in front.
In the second half, Webb drew a foul inside the box and converted on a penalty kick to give Rose-Hulman the two-goal edge.
Rose-Hulman outshot Earlham 11-6 in the match, led by junior Ben Lyon and Webb with three shots each. Sophomore Carter Wright recorded the Fightin' Engineers ninth shutout of the season to pace the defensive effort.
Victor Zuniga led the Earlham offense with three shots.
Rose-Hulman looks for its third consecutive HCAC tournament championship and third straight NCAA Division III Tournament appearance in Saturday's 2 p.m. matchup at top-seeded Hanover. The Fightin' Engineers improved to 13-2-4 overall and will face a Hanover team that battled Rose-Hulman to a 2-2 draw earlier this season.
