TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology hosts Senior Day for 17 members of the Fightin' Engineer football program before Saturday's 1:30 p.m. home matchup with Mount St. Joseph University.
This year's senior class includes Aaron Abbott, Doug Bickel, Blair Briscoe, T.J. Demos, Jacob Dye, Josh Hoptry, Craig Larew, Michael Laritz, Matt Pansera, Jordan Patterson, Tyler Rockwood, Chris Sander, Clark Schultz, Kevin Trizna, D.J. Turner-Smith, Joseph Woodley and manager Cody Hamelberg. They will be honored in a pregame ceremony approximately 1:10 p.m.
Rose-Hulman stands 7-1 overall and 5-1 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action entering Saturday's matchup. The Fightin' Engineers have their best record after eight games since the 1987 season. Mount St. Joseph has a 5-3 mark and is 5-2 in conference play.
Junior Austin Swenson leads the HCAC in passing efficiency and has completed 193-of-283 passes (68.2%) for 2,344 yards and 26 touchdowns so far this season. Junior Alec Fisher is the top receiver with 46 receptions for 701 yards and 10 touchdowns, with Abbott and junior Joe Moehrle over 400 yards each. Sophomore Kevin Dufauchard leads the ground attack with 646 yards and five touchdowns.
Defensively, sophomore Kaelen Garner has a team-high 51 tackles, and sophomore Mike Henry has contributed 43. Junior Connor Kispert ranks among the HCAC leaders in tackles-for-loss (13.5), sacks (6) and forced fumbles (3). The Fightin' Engineers lead the league in total defense by allowing just 320 yards per game.
Larew stands a perfect 41-41 on extra points and has made 4-8 field goals so far this season. He also ranks among the HCAC's leaders in punting with a 39.6 average and 14 kicks inside the 20-yard line.
After Saturday's game, Rose-Hulman travels to Earlham College for the Battle of the Borders Broadsword Game on Nov. 14. Rose-Hulman has a chance to earn just the second nine-win season in the 119-year history of Fightin' Engineer football with wins in the next two games.
