TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology hits the road for a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference men's basketball matchup at Bluffton University on Saturday at 3 p.m. The game serves as the second game of a doubleheader with the women's game as the 1 p.m. opener.
Rose-Hulman stands 4-3 on the season and 1-1 in HCAC play after an 82-80 win over Franklin College at Hulbert Arena on Wednesday night. Freshman Charlie Aimone scored a career-high 25 points and hit the game winning three-pointer with 5.6 seconds remaining to propel the victory.
Senior Matt Loesing currently leads the team in scoring average at 13.7 points per game. Senior Jimmy Miller averages 12.9 points per contest, with senior Tyler Duffy adding 9.4. Stephen Schueth (8.1 ppg) and Dillon Reynolds (8.0 ppg) have rounded out the starting lineup.
Rose-Hulman's early season has featured wins over Millikin, Fontbonne, DePauw and Franklin, entering Saturday's contest.
Bluffton stands 5-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play entering Saturday's matchup. The Beavers have defeated Transylvania and Earlham in conference play, with non-league wins over Ohio State-Lima, Villa Maria and Kalamazoo.
Senior preseason All-American Thayne Recker leads the Bluffton offense at 21.7 points and 8.8 rebounds per contest. Austin Rohde contributes 19.0 points per game. Jared Wentling (11.3 ppg), Billy Taflinger (10.2 ppg) and Trey Elchert (4.0 ppg) have rounded out the starting lineup.
Rose-Hulman leads the all-time series with Bluffton 10-8, which began when the Fightin' Engineers joined the HCAC in 2006-07. Bluffton won the most recent meeting last February.
After Saturday's game, Rose-Hulman returns home to face Illinois Tech on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
