Rose-Hulman Wins Historic Clabber Girl Trophy Game

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology set a school record for points in a game and won the Clabber Girl Classic for the fourth consecutive year with a 104-84 victory over St. Mary-of-the-Woods College in women's basketball action on Friday night at Hulbert Arena.

Junior Josie Schmidt led six Fightin' Engineers in double figures with 19 points on 7-7 from the field.  Freshman Chiarra Franklin contributed a double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds, and junior Kristen Belyea scored 13 points with four assists for Rose-Hulman.

Other double figure scorers included freshman Ally Bromenschenkel with 12 points and four blocks; junior Abbie Marshall with 11 points, six rebounds, four assists and four steals; and sophomore Alyzia Dilworth with 10 points.

Mikayla Kinneer led the St. Mary-of-the-Woods offense with 15 points on 5-8 from the field.  Callan Taylor also reached double figures for the Pomeroys with 14 points.

Other key contributors for Rose-Hulman included freshman Jenna Queary with six points; senior Cassidy Cain with five points and five assists; and freshman Brianna Gliesmann with five points.

Rose-Hulman shot 54% from the field for the game and hit its first 24 free throws in the historic performance.  The contest marked Rose-Hulman's second 100-point game in program history and snapped a decade-plus record for points in a game.  The Fightin' Engineers also set a school record with 28 assists in the win.

Rose-Hulman also reclaimed the Clabber Girl Trophy for the fourth consecutive year, cutting the all-time series down to 14-9 in favor of St. Mary-of-the-Woods.

Rose-Hulman jumped out to a 27-16 lead after one quarter and led 54-40 in the half.  The Fightin' Engineers crossed the 100-point mark for the first time ever at Hulbert Arena on a layup by Schmidt with 1:38 remaining.

St. Mary-of-the-Woods hit nine three-pointers and shot 38% from the field to remain within striking distance.  The Pomeroys also scored 46 points off the bench.

Rose-Hulman improved to 7-3 on the season, while St. Mary-of-the-Woods fell to 5-6.  The Fightin' Engineers return home to face Transylvania University on Jan. 2, while St. Mary-of-the-Woods travel to Lindsey Wilson on Dec. 22.
