TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology begins the 2016 men's basketball calendar year with a home matchup against Transylvania University on Saturday at 3 p.m.
Rose-Hulman and Transylvania have been two of the top teams in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference over the past decade, combining for six regular season and six conference tournament titles since 2005.
Rose-Hulman stands 5-5 overall and 2-1 in HCAC play entering Saturday's contest. The Fightin' Engineers defeated Franklin and Bluffton during a key week in December, before falling in the final two non-conference games of the season.
The balanced Rose-Hulman scoring attack features six players averaging between 6.7 and 13.5 points per game. Senior Matt Loesing leads the offense at 13.5 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. Senior Jimmy Miller has added 11.4 points and 6.5 rebounds per contest, and senior Tyler Duffy is also in double figures at 10.0 points per game.
The starting lineup has also included Dillon Reynolds (9.5 ppg) and Stephen Schueth (6.7 ppg). Freshman Charlie Aimone has added 9.8 points per game and made his first college start on Dec. 19.
Transylvania stands 2-8 overall and 1-2 in league play entering Saturday's matchup. The Pioneers feature all five starters averaging in double figures, led by Bo Schuh (13.3 ppg), Parker Stansberry (13.1 ppg) and Alex Jones (12.9 ppg).
After Saturday's matchup, Rose-Hulman hits the road for an in-state conference matchup at Hanover College on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
