COMPLETE RESULTS
GREENCASTLE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology relied on six first-place finishes to capture first place on the men's side and 12th place in women's action at the 16-team DePauw University Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
With the performance, Rose-Hulman closed the regular season with a 37-2 dual meet record entering the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference indoor championships at the Sports and Recreation Center next weekend.
Rose-Hulman relied on a strong pole vault performance, claiming five of the top six finishes to bolster the men's team score. Sophomore Josh Blome took top honors with a winning mark of 14' 5 1/4".
Senior Zac Erba added another field event win with a weight throw mark of 50' 7 3/4".
In running events, the Fightin' Engineers also claimed first-place honors in the distance medley relay. The team of Brandon Loyer, Brendon Mattiuz, Stuart West and Ryan Meyer ran a winning time of 10:43.62.
Individual winners also included Mattiuz in the 600-meter run (1:25.49) and freshman Matt Hill in the 1,000 (2:39.48).
On the women's side, freshman Jaclyn Setina led the performance with a first-place finish in the high jump and a mark of 5' 4 1/2".
Sophomore Charles Spaeth led the runner-up performances with the second-best shot put throw in Rose-Hulman history. Spaeth won the event with a mark of 52' 2".
Freshman Gabi Razma also brought home a second-place finish with a triple jump mark of 34' 5 3/4".
Rose-Hulman combined for nine third-place finishes on the afternoon. In running events, third-place finishers included Matthew Billingsley in the 800 (2:02.81), Alex Leversen in the 1,000 (2:43.74) and the 4-x-200 relay team of Gene Kum, Brandon Stahl, Ben Wewe and John Evans (1:35.25).
The Fightin' Engineers shared two third-place honors in the pole vault, with Eric Downing and Nathan Green each clearing 13' 11 1/4". Sophomore Andrew Okruch also came home third in both the shot put (49' 1 1/2") and the weight throw (49' 2 1/2").
Other third-place field event finishers included senior Austin Schulthies in the long jump (21' 1 1/2") and sophomore Brendan Smyth in the triple jump (42' 11 3/4").
The HCAC Indoor Championships begin at 1 p.m. next Saturday on the Rose-Hulman campus.
