LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology completed its third winning season in women's basketball with a 65-51 loss to Hanover College in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament semifinal game on Saturday.
The Fightin' Engineers trailed by as many as 11 points early in the first half, before rallying to within two points at 47-45 at the 6:29 mark after two free throws by sophomore Abbie Marshall. Hanover answered with a 12-2 run to gain a 59-47 advantage with 3:24 remaining to secure the victory.
Sophomore Kristen Belyea led the Rose-Hulman offense with nine points on three shots from behind the arc. Seniors Gracie Gibbs and Sheree Williams added seven points each.
Other key contributors included Marshall and freshman Jordan Hagood with six points each; sophomore Josie Schmidt and junior Carrie Morris with five points each; sophomore Jamie Loving with 11 rebounds; and junior Cassidy Cain with four assists.
Hanover was held to 32% shooting on the day, but the Panthers forced 26 turnovers to pick up the victory. Shauna Watson had a game-high 14 points to lead Hanover, with Alicia Hopkins (12 points) and Kelsey Block (11 points) also reaching double figures. The Panthers also hit 21-31 from the free throw line.
Rose-Hulman's 2014-15 campaign featured the second postseason tournament win in program history; the team's third winning season; and the most wins in a season since the 2006-07 team finished 21-5.
