SHENANDOAH, TEXAS -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology junior Orion Martin earned his second career All-American award with a sixth place finish in the 100-yard butterfly at the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving National Championships on Thursday at Conroe Natatorium.
Martin completed the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 48.43 seconds for his second All-American award in the last two years in the same event. Martin placed seventh last year. National champion Reid Dalton of Washington University broke the NCAA Division III national record to win the event title.
Martin becames just the fourth Fightin' Engineer swimmer in school history to earn multiple All-American honors. Teammate Ellie Hong earned her second career All-American award with an eighth-place finish in the 200-backstroke during the Championships (SEE RELATED STORY). Matt Smith earned four All-American awards, including a 100-breaststroke national championship in 2003. Sean Valentine also earned a pair of All-American awards at the 1999 NCAA Division III National Championships.
The physics, computer science and mathematics major continues an outstanding career that includes two All-American awards, two College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Male Swimmer of the Year honors, four individual conference championships, nine individual all-league performances and five CCIW relay championships.
Martin also competed in two other events at the 2015 NCAA Division III National Championships, coming home 28th in the 200-breaststroke (1:51.66) and 34th in the 50-freestyle (20.85).
