TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology relied on 15 first-place finishes to earn first-place honors on the men's side and second place in the women's competition at the Rose-Hulman Early Bird Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
Meet highlights included three individual event victories for senior Blake Schulthies and a school record setting performance in the women's 4-x-400 meter relay.
Schulthies swept first-place honors in the 110-hurdles (15.24) and the 400-hurdles (54.97), and also captured a win in the javelin throw (158' 5"). He capped the day by serving as the anchor on the winning 4-x-400 meter relay team that featured Josh Hennig, Isaiah Smith, Brendan Smyth and Schulthies in a time of 3:25.56.
The women's 4-x-400 meter relay team also set a new school record with a time of 4:05.62. Members of the team included Christine Harper, Gabi Razma, Victoria Heckenlively and Addie Johnson.
Senior Vashon Solomon also swept both jumping events to bolster the team score. He won the long jump with a leap of 21' 7 1/4" and recorded a triple jump mark of 44' 8".
Other men's field event winners included sophomore Andrew Okruch in the shot put (47' 0 1/4") and sophomore Nic Keller in the discus (144' 5").

Johnson added another victory for the Rose-Hulman women, capturing top honors in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 1:04.84.
The Fightin' Engineers relied on a sweep of the top-five positions in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and the discus, and also claimed the top four spots in the triple jump to amass 123.33 points and earn first-place honors on the men's side.
