CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's tennis team improved to 4-2 on the season and 2-0 in conference play with a 9-0 sweep of Mount St. Joseph in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) action on Sunday, March 22.
Sophomores Brandon Benedict and Georges Adam improved to 3-2 on the season with an 8-2 victory at first doubles. Junior Matt Conrad and freshman Cam Metzger also boosted their doubles record to 3-2 with an 8-0 sweep at second doubles.
Junior Erin Miller and sophomore Joe Kendall needed a tiebreaker to defeated Cooper Wade and Kyle Haas 9-8(4) at third doubles.
In singles, Adam dispatched Ian Rowe with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at second singles. Metzger, Conrad, and freshman Tyler Haas won third, fourth, and sixth singles respectively all in straight sets.
Both Brandon and freshman Derek Benedict needed three sets for their first and fifth singles matches respectively. Brandon won his first set 6-0 but fell 6-3 in set two before winning the super tiebreaker 10-6 for set three. Derek, on the other hand, lost his first set in a tiebreak, but bounced back to win set two 6-0 and the third set super tiebreaker 10-5.
Rose-Hulman returns to action on Saturday, March 28, for an 11 a.m. match at Hanover.
