AUBURNDALE, Fla. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology rallied from an early deficit with a six-run fifth inning, but Concordia-Moorhead came out on top in a battle of Midwest baseball powers 12-9 on Tuesday morning.
Concordia-Moorhead jumped out to an early 5-1 lead, before the Fightin' Engineers scored six runs on seven hits in the top of the fifth. After six innings, then score was tied at 8-8 after another Rose-Hulman run.
Concordia-Moorhead had the big blast of the game, however, when Aaron Green hit a three-run home run in the seventh to snap the tie and lift the Cobbers to the win. Concordia-Moorhead completed its annual spring trip at 8-1 with the victory.
Junior Caleb Kissel, junior Josh Koutnik and junior Donnie Waters led the Rose-Hulman offense with three hits each. Kissel had two singles and a double with one run and one RBI. Koutnik had a double, two singles, scored twice and had two RBIs. Waters added three singles, one run and one RBI.
Junior Patrick Klima also contributed to the offensive attack with two singles and three runs scored. Rose-Hulman had 14 hits in the contest, but Concordia-Moorhead had 19 in the victory.
Tim Carlson, Nick Bomhauser and Eric Carlsen led the Cobbers with four hits each. Sam Mattson pitched 2.1 innings of relief to pick up the win, and Bryce Feia had his fourth save.
Rose-Hulman stands 2-1 on its spring trip entering Thursday's 2:30 p.m. matchup against Milwaukee School of Engineering.
