DEFIANCE, Ohio -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology improved to 5-0 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play with a 9-0 victory at Defiance College, before falling to NCAA Division I IPFW 7-0 later on Saturday.
The Fightin' Engineers improved to 5-0 in conference play by topping a Defiance squad that entered the day 3-0 in league matches and 8-4 overall.
Six players finished the day with wins in both singles and doubles at Defiance. Brandon Benedict and Georges Adam won at the No. 1 and No. 2 singles spots, and teamed for a No. 1 doubles win. Cam Metzger and Matt Conrad won at No. 3 and No. 4 singles spots, after teaming for a No. 2 doubles win. Derek Benedict and Tyler Haas added victories at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, after combining for a No. 3 doubles win.
IPFW moved over the .500 mark at 12-11 on the season with a 7-0 win in the nightcap. The Fightin' Engineers stand 7-5 overall entering Sunday's conference matchup at Manchester University.
