COMPLETE RESULTS
GREENCASTLE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology placed second on the men's side and fifth in the women's competition at the Indiana Division III Track and Field Championships on Saturday afternoon at DePauw University.
The women's squad highlighted the individual performances with two first-place efforts. The 4-x-400 meter relay team of Christine Harper, Gabi Razma, Victoria Heckenlively and Addie Johnson set a new school record for the second time this year with a mark of 4:04.22. Johnson added a victory in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:06.05.
On the men's side, sophomore Brendan Smyth earned the team's first-place finish in the triple jump. Smyth leaped 41' 11 1/4" to lead the Engineer performance.
Runner-up finishers for the men's squad included senior Ryan Meyer in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:43.11), freshman Josh Hennig in the triple jump (41' 1 1/2"), the pole vault duo of Blake Schulthies and Josh Blome in a tie (13' 11 1/4"), and the 4-x-400 meter relay team of Hennig, Smyth, Isaiah Smith and Schulthies in a time of 3:21.29.
The women's team combined for three second-place finishes, led by Razma with runner-up finishes in the long jump (16' 1") and the triple jump (35' 1 1/4"). Sophomore Ava Paruleski also came home second in the javelin throw (105' 0").
Men's third-place finishers were highlighted by senior Austin Schulthies in the discus (151' 7") and javelin (165' 11"). Other third-place finishes included junior Sam Sobczak in the 5,000-meters (15:32.02), Blake Schulthies in the 400-hurdles (54.46), senior Vashon Solomon in the long jump (20' 5"), sophomore Charles Spaeth in the shot put (50' 4"), and senior Zac Erba in the hammer throw (162' 6").
Women's third-place finishers included Heckenlively in the 400-meter dash (1:02.17), junior Mallory McDevitt in the pole vault (9' 6 1/4"), and freshman Jaclyn Setina in the high jmp (5' 2 1/4").
The Fightin' Engineers return to action at the Rose-Hulman Twilight Meet on Friday night at the William Welch Track and Field Complex.
