TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Freshman Joey Callahan allowed just two hits in six innings pitched, and the Rose-Hulman baseball team had 11 hits to earn a 9-3 victory over Greenville College in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday night.
Callahan struck out eight batters in the six inning performance to improve to 4-3 on the season. The Fightin' Engineers also picked up a win for the second straight night after defeating Anderson 5-4 on Tuesday.
Junior Donnie Waters and senior Josh Hoeing led a 11-hit attack with two hits and two runs scored each. Waters blasted his first home run of the season, while Hoeing had a triple with one RBI and Waters had two singles and one RBI.
Junior Evan Witsken contributed two singles to the performance. Three players added one hit and one run scored each.
Rose-Hulman turned a 1-0 lead into a 4-0 advantage with three runs in the fourth inning. After a solo home run by the Panthers, the Engineers added four more runs in the sixth to secure the victory.
The Engineers improved to 19-12 on the season, while Greenville dropped to 14-16.
Rose-Hulman returns to action with a key three-game series at Bluffton on Saturday and Sunday, as the Fightin' Engineers enter the weekend just one-half game behind Bluffton for first place in the league standings.
