Rose-Hulman Earns 4th Straight Win Over DePauw

BOX SCORE

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology junior Daniel Sutherland tossed seven strong innings, and the Fightin' Engineers relied on two multiple-run innings to top DePauw University 7-1 in non-conference baseball action on Wednesday night.

Sutherland allowed just six hits and one earned run with two strikeouts for his first victory of the season.  The right-hander has defeated DePauw in his last three starts against the rival Tigers, including a nine-inning shutout in the NCAA Division III Tournament last spring.

Rose-Hulman scored four times in the fifth inning to take the early lead.  Sophomore Drew Schnitz provided the key hit with a bases loaded, two-run triple.  In the seventh, the Engineers scored twice on two hits and multiple DePauw errors.

Junior Donnie Waters led the offensive efforme run in the with a solo home run in the eighth inning.  Schnitz scored twice with two RBIs and a triple, and junior Patrick Klima added a single and an RBI.

Rose-Hulman improved to 23-13 on the season, while DePauw dropped to 14-22.  The Fightin' Engineers need one win in this weekend's series at Mount St. Joseph to clinch a bid to the HCAC Tournament, and needs three wins plus a loss by Anderson to earn the top seed and hosting rights for the tourney.  Earlham and Manchester are also in contention for tournament hosting rights.

This weekend, the Fightin' Engineers travel to Mount St. Joseph for a three-game series at Midland Field in Batavia, Ohio, starting Saturday.  The series includes a Saturday doubleheader at 2 p.m. and a single game on Sunday at noon.
