NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology junior Sam Sobczak snapped a 37-year old school record to highlight the Fightin' Engineer performance at the North Central College Track and Field Last Chance Meet on Thursday night.
Sobczak ran a 10,000-meter time of 31:36.52 to snap the previous record of 32:03 set by John Whitaker at the 1978 Little State Meet. He also became the first Fightin' Engineer to break the 32-minute mark in the outdoor 10,000-meter run.
Junior Brandon Loyer and senior Ryan Meyer joined Sobczak with successful performances at North Central. Both competitors set season-best times in the 5,000-meter run, with Loyer completing the event in 15:20.33 and Meyer finishing in 15:22.19.
Rose-Hulman will await word of any potential NCAA Division III national qualifiers for next week's event at St. Lawrence University. The field is scheduled to be announced on Sunday.
