TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Centre College showcased its reputation as one of the top NCAA Division III women's soccer programs in the Midwest in a 4-0 victory over Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in the season opener for both teams on Tuesday night.
Centre scored three times in the first half, then added one insurance goal in the second half. Destinie Graves scored two goals, and Nancy Ingham and Alex Combs each added one for the Colonels.
Centre, which reached the NCAA Division III Quarterfinals in 2014, outshot Rose-Hulman 20-3 in the match. Madeline Romeo, Stefanie Panzenhagen and Eliska Saiz each recorded shots for the Fightin' Engineers.
The matchup featured twin sisters Alex Combs of Centre and goalkeeper Lucinda Combs of Rose-Hulman. Lucinda Combs recorded eight saves in the match for the Fightin' Engineers.
Centre stands 1-0, while Rose-Hulman is 0-1. The Fightin' Engineers host Milwaukee School of Engineering on Saturday afternoon.
