BOX SCORES: RHODES / BLACKBURN
ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology volleyball team improved to 5-1 on the season with victories over Rhodes and Blackburn at the Washington University Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
Rose-Hulman started the second day of action with a 20-25, 25-18, 25-14, 26-24 victory over Rhodes. In the nightcap, the Fightin' Engineers swept Blackburn College 25-17, 25-8, 25-23 to finish the four-match tournament at 3-1.
Against Rhodes, the freshman duo of Julia Hammond and Bailey MacInnis led Rose-Hulman with 12 kills each. Freshman Marissa Gollnick had a team-high 20 assists, and senior Sarah Jensen added 14 assists. Sophomore Gabi Razma recorded 18 digs, with Hammond contributing 16 in a double-double effort.
Razma led the serving performance with two service aces, and junior Emily McLendon recorded a team-high five blocks. Jensen contributing to the blocking effort with four assists.
Against Blackburn, sophomore Becca Poppel led the offensive effort with 10 kills, and McLendon contributed seven. Jensen had a team-high 13 assists, with Dreyer adding 11. Razma recorded 22 digs and was joined in double figures by Jensen with 10.
Sophomore Ellese Petty led the serving effort with two service aces, and McLendon had a team-high four total blocks in the game two victory.
After the tournament, McLendon was named to the Washington University All-Tournament Team.
Rose-Hulman returns to action at St. Mary-of-the-Woods College for the first ever matchup with the crosstown foe on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
