TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology relied on three players in double figures and hit 10 three-point shots to defeat Hanover College 75-70 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference men's basketball action on Wednesday night.
Senior Dillon Reynolds led the scoring attack with a career-high 23 points on 6-11 from the field and 9-10 from the free throw line. Freshman Charlie Aimone added 19 points on 6-7 from three-point range and five rebounds.
Freshman Luke Callahan also reached double figures with 11 points and five rebounds. Senior Tyler Duffy contributed six points, six rebounds and four assists to the performance. Aimone and Callahan helped Rose-Hulman earn a 36-20 advantage in points off the bench.
Hanover placed four players in double figures, led by V.J. Billups with 19 points. Levi Buck scored 12 points for the Panthers, and Landon Perry added 11. Cameron Fails rounded out the double figure scorers with 10 points.
Rose-Hulman shot 46% from the field for the game but buried 10 of 19 three-point shots for a 53% clip. The Fightin' Engineers also held Hanover to 40% and owned a 39-30 rebound advantage.
The two teams battled tightly throughout much of the game, with Hanover leading by as much as seven points and Rose-Hulman by as many as eight.
Hanover built a 53-46 lead midway through the second half, but a 14-4 Rose-Hulman run capped by an Aimone three-pointer and a conventional three-point play by Reynolds put the Engineers ahead 60-57.
Hanover led again at 62-61, but a three-pointer by Aimone, a layup from Callahan and a score by Stephen Schueth with 38 seconds left put the Engineers ahead securely at 68-62.
Rose-Hulman improved to 10-8 overall and 7-4 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play, while Hanover dropped to 9-9 and 7-4 in league games. The Fightin' Engineers return home to face Bluffton on Saturday at 1 p.m.
