CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's and women's swimming and diving team opened the 2016-17 season with a strong performance at the Indiana Division III Invitational, including six event wins.
Rose-Hulman placed second on the men's side and third in women's competition in a meet that featured six squads.
Senior Pierce Bartine led the men's performance with two individual and two relay event victories. Individually, Bartine won the 50-freestyle (21.51) and 100-butterfly (50.31).
The 200-medley relay team of Cam Gill, Nick Samra, Bartine and Tyler Sariscsany won in a time of 1:37.17. The 400-freestyle relay squad capped the meet with a winning time of 3:13.32 featuring Bartine, Sariscsany, Ben Stone and Nate Weber.
On the women's side, senior Ellie Hong captured top honors with a time of 59.98 seconds in the 100-backstroke. Freshman Michaela Kivett rounded out the winners with a three-meter diving score of 142.35 points.
Gill had two runner-up performances to bolster the team score, placing second in the 100-freestyle (47.97) and 100-backstroke (53.54). Kivett added a second-place finish with a one-meter diving score of 181.60 points.
Rose-Hulman returns to action at the Indiana Intercollegiate Meet on Oct. 22 at Purdue University.
