Men's Basketball Reclaims John Mutchner Cup

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology reclaimed the John Mutchner Cup for the third consecutive year with a 73-65 men's basketball victory over Earlham College on Wednesday night at Hulbert Arena.

Senior Matt Loesing led the Fightin' Engineer offense with 21 points on 8-11 from the field.  Senior Tyler Duffy added 12 points on 4-5 from the field with four assists.  Freshman Charlie Aimone contributed nine points off the bench for the balanced attack.

Other key contributors for Rose-Hulman included junior Wade Stallings with seven points and three assists; senior Jimmy Miller with six points and four rebounds; sophomore Stephen Schueth with six points; and freshman Luke Callahan with nine rebounds, three blocks and four points.

Isaiah Waire led the Earlham offense with 15 points.  Nick Sands scored 14 points, and Taylen Alexander was also in double figures for the Quakers with 11 points.

Rose-Hulman shot 59% from the field to turn a four-point lead into a 17-point lead in the final four minutes of the game.  The Fightin' Engineers also hit 8-9 free throws in the second half, and held Earlham to 44% for the game.

Rose-Hulman contributed 20 assists on its 29 field goals, while outrebounding Earlham 35-26.  Fifty-two of Rose-Hulman's 73 points were scored in the paint.

The Fightin' Engineers improved to 13-9 on the season and 10-5 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play.  Earlham dropped to 2-20 overall and 1-14 in league games.  Rose-Hulman returns to action on Saturday at Manchester.
