Men's Basketball Moves Into First Place Tie in HCAC

ANDERSON, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology moved into a first place tie in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference men's basketball standings with an 84-67 victory at Anderson University on Wednesday night.

Rose-Hulman's victory, combined with losses by Defiance and Mount St. Joseph, moves the three teams into a first place tie in the HCAC standings at 12-5 with one game remaining.  The Fightin' Engineers host Defiance on Saturday at 3 p.m. in the Senior Day Game at Hulbert Arena.

The Fightin' Engineers shot 55% from the field in the first half to build a 17-point lead at the break.  In the second half, Rose-Hulman shot 87% on the free throw line and placed 12 players in the scoring column to earn its 15th win of the season.

Junior Collin Wojcik and senior Matt Loesing tied for Rose-Hulman's team-high scoring honors with 14 points each.  Wojcik hit four three-pointers and Loesing was 6-10 from the field with six rebounds.

Senior Dillon Reynolds also reached double figures with 10 points and six rebounds.  Junior Wade Stallings and freshman Charlie Aimone had nine points each, freshman Luke Callahan contributed eight points and eight rebounds, and senior Tyler Duffy pitched in with six points and six assists. 

Wes Davidson came off the bench to lead Anderson with 24 points and six rebounds.  Joe Line also reached double figures with 16 points for the Ravens.

Rose-Hulman outrebounded Anderson 48-37 in the contest and built the lead as high as 27 points midway through the second.

Rose-Hulman improved to 15-9 on the season and 12-5 in league play, while Anderson dropped to 13-11 and 9-8 in conference games. 

The winner of the Rose-Hulman vs. Defiance game on Saturday will secure at least a first round bye in the HCAC Tournament to be held next week.  Rose-Hulman would host the HCAC Tournament semifinals and championship game with a win over Defiance and a loss by Mount St. Joseph to Earlham on Saturday.
