Men's Basketball Hosts Senior Day Showdown

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology will have a chance to earn a share of its third Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference men's basketball regular season championship in the last four years during Saturday's 3 p.m. Senior Day matchup against Defiance.

The Fightin' Engineers have won eight of their last nine and three games in a row to improve to 15-9 overall and 12-5 in HCAC play.  Rose-Hulman moved into a first place tie after defeating Anderson 84-67 on Wednesday night.

Rose-Hulman would secure at least a share of its third men's basketball conference championship in the last four years with a win on Saturday.  The Fightin' Engineers have won 10 regular season titles in over 100 years of men's basketball at the college.  

Rose-Hulman would host next week's HCAC Tournament with a win over Defiance and a loss by Mount St. Joseph to Earlham today.  The visiting Yellow Jackets would also guarantee at least a conference regular season championship with a win on Saturday. 

Rose-Hulman will honor six seniors prior to their final regular season home game. Brian Decker has appeared in 15 games with 14 career points. Tyler Duffy has appeared in 87 games with 75 starts and career totals of 676 points, 321 rebounds and 245 assists. Matt Loesing has appeared in 73 career games with 50 starts and career totals of 610 points, 305 rebounds and 37 blocked shots.

Jimmy Miller has appreared in 101 games with 76 starts and career totals of 885 points, 446 rebounds and 110 assists. Dillon Reynolds has appeared in 54 games with 23 starts and has career totals of 431 points, 110 assists and 78 rebounds. Mitch Williams has appeared in 56 games with 132 points, 110 rebounds and 19 blocks at Rose-Hulman.

Rose-Hulman currently has five players averaging double figures in scoring, including four seniors.  Reynolds (11.8 ppg), Loesing (11.7), Miller (10.1), Duffy (10.0) and freshman Charlie Aimone (10.0) are in double figures, and Stephen Schueth (6.3) has rounded out the recent starting lineup.  Luke Callahan, Wade Stallings and Mitch Williams have all appeared in more than 20 games, and Collin Wojcik has contributed 5.5 points per game.

Defiance features two players averaging double figures in Tyler Alexander (17.1 ppg) and Michael Parker (14.8 ppg).  The attack also includes starters Blake Dunbar (9.4 ppg), Chris Holmes (9.4) and Wade Wooley (8.1).

Rose-Hulman and Defiance are tied 11-11 all-time in their series, with Defiance holding an 11-10 edge in HCAC play.  The Yellow Jackets have won the last three meetings, including a 67-64 win in Ohio on Jan. 16.

The Fightin' Engineers have earned a bid to the six-team HCAC Tournament and would secure a first round bye by winning on Saturday.  Rose-Hulman will open the tournament on Feb. 26, with the site, bracket and time to be determined after Saturday's play.
