CLERMONT, Fla. - The Fightin' Engineers opened the 2016 softball season with a pair of 3-0 losses to St. Mary's (Minn.) and Otterbein on Monday night in Florida.
Freshman Maddie Struble and junior Morgan Dreyer each had two hits in the combined games on Monday. Senior Taylor Lockhart allowed only one earned run at pitcher and had four strikeouts in the first game.
Rose-Hulman's closest chance to rally was in the opener, as the Fightin' Engineers loaded the bases with no outs in the seventh inning. St. Mary's turned a triple play to end the game and secure the victory.
The Fightin' Engineers look to rally back with two games on Tuesday. Rose-Hulman will play York (Pa.) at 9 a.m. and Immaculata at 11 a.m. at Hancock Park.
