Women Extend Streak to 12 With Win over Franklin

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology extended its women's basketball winning streak to a school record of 12 games with a 54-41 victory at Hulbert Arena on Wednesday evening.

The Grizzlies came out on a 12-0 run in the first quarter in the first 6:30 minutes of play.  The Fightin' Engineers answered with a 19-5 run to finish the first half with a two-point lead at 19-17.

Sophomore Alyzia Dilworth came off the bench to lead a balanced Rose-Hulman scoring attack with her first career double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds. Senior Cassidy Cain reached double figures with 10 points and 3-7 from the field and 2-2 behind the arc.

Other key contributors to the balanced offensive attack included junior Josie Schmidt with six points, and freshman Ally Bromenschenkel with five points and two rebounds.  Freshman Chiarra Franklin also contributed six rebounds in the win.

Franklin had only one player reach double figures, with Lauren DeSutter scoring 14 points and three assists.  Senior Katie Brewer contributed 12 rebounds in the loss.

Rose-Hulman shot 38% from the field for the game along with 36% from 3-point range.  The Fightin' Engineers held the Panthers to only 28% shooting with another strong defensive performance.

The Fightin' Engineers are now 17-3 overall and 11-2 in league play, one game behind league leader Bluffton.   Rose-Hulman returns to action in Cincinnati on Saturday against Mount St. Joseph. The doubleheader will feature a reversal of standard starting times, with the men playing at 2 p.m. and the women's game is slated for 4 p.m.
