TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology stands 5-4 on the baseball season after defeating Baldwin Wallace 9-4 and falling 2-1 to Illinois Wesleyan to open the 2016 home schedule on Saturday.

Rose-Hulman will complete the weekend schedule by hosting Illinois Wesleyan on Sunday at noon in a nine-inning game at Art Nehf Field.

In the game one win over Baldwin Wallace, junior Drew Schnitz led Rose-Hulman's 12-hit attack with three hits.  Schnitz had three singles, scored twice and recorded three RBIs in the contest.

Other Rose-Hulman players with multiple hits included senior Kody Alayon with two singles and two runs scored; senior Caleb Kissel with two singles and three runs scored; and freshman David Burnside with a double, single and one RBI.  Senior Patrick Klima added a double and scored twice.

The offensive effort provided support for senior Karson Nixon to earn the pitching victory.  Nixon scattered six hits with five strikeouts in seven innings of work.  Sophomore Joey Callahan pitched the final two innings to secure the victory.

In the nightcap, Gino Cavalieri of Illinois Wesleyan snapped a 1-1 tie in the top of the ninth with an RBI single to score Ben Manski with the game winning run in the 2-1 contest.

Senior Donnie Waters led the Rose-Hulman offense with two hits, including a double.  Hazen Hamather added a single and scored one run for the Engineers.

Senior Andrew Stull threw a strong 8.1 innings before suffering the loss.  Stull struck out six and scattered eight hits with just two walks and two runs allowed in the performance.

Rose-Hulman (5-4) will face Illinois Wesleyan (6-5) in the finale of this weekend's action on Sunday at noon.  In-game coverage links are above.
