CLERMONT, Fla. - The Fightin' Engineer softball team moved to 3-3 overall after splitting two games on Wednesday at Legends Way. Rose-Hulman won its first game 2-0 against St. Vincent and lost 2-1 in its second game against Elizabethtown.
Rose-Hulman's first game was 0-0 heading into the top of the 6th. Sophomore Jenny Miller reached first base on an error to score Jett Bender scored the first run of the game. Senior Marissa Stout scored in the top of the 7th on a sacrifice fly by junior Janel Lake. Senior Taylor Lockhart pitched a two-hit shutout, and recorded her second shutout of the season.
In the nightcap, the Fighin' Engineers were down 2-0 heading into the bottom of the 3rd when Miller hit a home run on a 3-2 pitch. Sophomore Michelle Korf had one strikeout in a complete game pitching performances. Rose-Hulman had five hits in the 2-1 loss against Elizabethtown.
Freshman Maddie Struble had a total of two hits in both games, and Lockhart had three strikeouts in the first game. Rose-Hulman had a total of nine hits in the split on Wednesday.
The Fightin' Engineers will play Northwestern at 5 p.m. and Mount Union at 7 p.m. on Thursday at Legends Way.
