TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology set a new single-season school record for wins with one of the most significant victories in program history on Saturday afternoon.
The Fightin' Engineers earned a 9-0 win over Wabash College in a battle of two teams regionally ranked in this week's ITA Central Region poll. Rose-Hulman stood in the No. 18 spot, while Wabash is ranked No. 12.
Rose-Hulman also improved to 16-7 on the season to set a new single-season school record for team victories.
Against Wabash, the doubles team of Georges Adam and Brandon Benedict, Cam Metzger and Andre Adam, and Matt Conrad and Joe Kendall earned wins of 8-6, 8-2 and 9-7 to give the Engineers an early 3-0 lead.
In singles play, Georges Adam and Andre Adam won two-set matches to secure the victory. The remaining four singles matches all went three sets, with Benedict, Metzger, Conrad and Andrew Schiffman coming out on top.
Earlier in the day, Rose-Hulman improved to 5-0 in HCAC play with a 9-0 win over Defiance.
The same three doubles teams and the same top five singles players also earned wins against the Yellow Jackets. Brendan Goldacker capped the sweep with a No. 6 singles victory.
Rose-Hulman (16-7, 5-0 HCAC) returns to action at home against nationally ranked DePauw on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
