Baseball Team Completes Series Sweep at Hanover

HANOVER, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology completed a three-game baseball series sweep at Hanover College by pounding out 17 hits in a 13-2 victory over Sunday afternoon.

Rose-Hulman improved to 12-5 overall and moved into first place in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference standings at 5-1 in league play with the victory.  The Fightin' Engineers have won four straight games and seven of their last eight through this weekend's play.

Senior Kody Alayon led Rose-Hulman's 17-hit performance on Sunday with three singles, two RBIs and one run scored.  Senior Caleb Kissel added two singles and scored three times, with senior Patrick Klima also scoring three runs on the afternoon.

Junior Zach Trusk blasted a pair of doubles and had one RBI.  Senior Donnie Waters had two hits, both in the ninth inning as a reserve, and senior Zach Hull also had a multiple-hit performance with two singles.  Senior Hazen Hamather also scored twice to contribute to the offensive effort.

Senior Daniel Sutherland picked up the pitching win with another strong start.  Sutherland scattered six hits in 6.2 innings of work with three strikeouts to improve to 4-0 on the season.  Sophomore Joey Callahan and junior Cody Sunderhaus picked up the final five outs to secure the victory.

Chris Ares and Brooks Bailey led the Hanover offense with two singles each.

Rose-Hulman scored three runs in the first inning, then broke the game open with six runs in the ninth to secure their first HCAC series sweep of the 2016 season.

Rose-Hulman returns to conference action on Tuesday, hosting Anderson University at 6 p.m. at Art Nehf Field.
