TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology moved within one game of clinching the outright Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference regular season baseball championship with a 5-1 victory and a 7-4 loss to Mount St. Joseph on Friday night at Art Nehf Field.

The two teams conclude their series with a single game on Saturday at noon.  The Fightin' Engineers have secured at least a share of their first HCAC regular season title since 2012 and can win the outright league title with one win or a Transylvania loss on Saturday.

In addition, Rose-Hulman will honor its 14 seniors in a pregame ceremony prior to the noon first pitch.

In Friday's opener, senior Alec McNally scattered six hits and allowed just one run in seven innings of work to improve to 5-0 on the season.  McNally struck out seven, before Gunnar Hutchison and Cody Sunderhaus recorded the last six outs to complete the victory.

Rose-Hulman had three players with multiple hits in the victory.  Senior Patrick Klima finished 2-2 with two doubles and three runs scored to lead the attack.  Senior Kody Alayon and senior Caleb Kissel added two singles each.

Zach Farmer and Matt Hofmann led the Mount St. Joseph with two hits each in game one.

In the nightcap, senior Donnie Waters led the Rose-Hulman offense with a three-run home run and Kissel had a pair of hits.

Senior Andrew Stull struck out nine in 6.1 innings of work, and sophomore Chuck Alexa tossed two scoreless innings to pace the pitching performance.

Rose-Hulman stands 25-10 overall and 17-6 in HCAC play, while Mount St. Joseph stands 21-18 and 10-16 in league games.  The series concludes with a single game on Saturday at noon.
