Rose-Hulman Rally Falls Short vs. Webster

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology rallied from a five-run deficit to force extra innings, before Webster University scored the final run to earn a 7-6 victory in 10 innings at Art Nehf Field on Sunday.

Webster jumped out to an early 5-0 lead, before Rose-Hulman scored once in the fifth, twice in the sixth, twice in the eighth and one in the ninth to force a 6-6 tie and put the game into extra innings. Junior Hazen Hamather capped the rally with a ninth inning double to score pinch runner Conner Shipley and tie the score at 6-6.

The Gorloks responded with one run in the 10th inning to earn the victory on an RBI single by Matt Wollnik.  Jeff Kammer led the 14-hit Webster attack wtih three hits and one RBI.

The Rose-Hulman offense featured junior Zach Trusk and freshman David Burnside with three hits each.  Trusk scored one run, while Burnside scored twice.  Hamather added a double, one run and two RBIs, and senior Zach Hull pitched in with two hits.  Senior Patrick Klima also contributed a double and two RBIs to the effort.

Rose-Hulman used nine pitchers in completing their fifth game in four games.  Trevor Dallio and Jonathan Banks paced the effort with two scoreless innings each.

Webster improved to 27-13, while Rose-Hulman completes its regular season at 26-11.  The Fightin' Engineers return to action in the HCAC Tournament at Rose-Hulman, facing Manchester in the opening round on Thursday at 7 p.m.
