TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's basketball team got back into the win column on Wednesday night, defeating the Anderson University Ravens 66-32 in Hulbert Arena.
Play in the first quarter was tight and Rose-Hulman fell behind in the opening minutes of the contest as Anderson hit several layups and took an 8-4 lead three minutes into the game. Rose shot just 26.3% (5-19) in the opening quarter and the Fightin' Engineers trailed 14-12 after the first period of play.
In the second quarter Rose-Hulman clamped down defensively and limited the visiting Ravens to just four points. Anderson was just 1-11 (9.1%) from the field in the second stanza. The Rose-Hulman offense improved as RHIT shot 7-18 (38.9%) from the floor and 2-5 from beyond the three-point arc. Rose-Hulman led at halftime 29-18, outscoring the Ravens 17-4 in the frame.
After halftime the Fightin' Engineers used another impressive defensive effort in the third quarter to increase their lead. RHIT outscored Anderson 18-4 and led 47-22 heading into the final period of play. Anderson shot 1-12 (8.3%) from the floor in the third quarter. In the fourth quarter a balanced Rose-Hulman attack put 19 more points on the board and RHIT outscored Anderson for the third straight quarter, 19-10.
Ally Bromenschenkel led a balanced Rose-Hulman attack with 15 points, five rebounds, and three blocks. Taylor Graham also finished in double figures with 12 points on the strength of 5-10 shooting from the floor. Nine of the 12 Engineers that saw action in the contest scored. Rose won the rebounding battle, outrebounding the Ravens 51-37. RHIT also finished with nine blocks. Rose-Hulman assisted on 21 of their 27 field goals in the game.
With the win the women improved to 11-3 on the season and 6-1 in HCAC action. Anderson fell to 5-9, 2-5 HCAC. Rose will return to the hardwood on Saturday January 14 at home against Defiance. Tipoff will be at 1 pm.
