RICHMOND, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology moved into sole possession of first place in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball standings with a 51-34 road victory over Earlham College on Wednesday night.

Sophomore Abby Bromenschenkel led a balanced scoring attack with 10 points and four steals.  Sophomore Taylor Graham came off the bench with nine points and three rebounds.  Abbie Marshall and Ally Bromenschenkel contributed eight points each to the Fightin' Engineer performance.

Rose-Hulman improved to 13-3 and 8-1 in league play with the victory and moved into sole possession of first place in the HCAC when Bluffton dropped a 79-75 double overtime decision to Defiance College.

The Rose-Hulman defense played a large part in the victory, holding Earlham to just 19 points in the first three quarters.  Earlham was held to just 23% from the field and Mariah Flynn was the lone double-figure scorer for the Quakers with 10 points.

Rose-Hulman led 11-5 after the first quarter, and built the lead to 16-5 by holding the Quakers without a point for the first five minutes of period two.  The advantage stayed at double figures at 25-14 at the break.

In the second half, consecutive three-pointers by Graham, Abby Bromenschenkel and again by Graham pushed the Rose-Hulman lead to 34-14.  Rose-Hulman held Earlham without a point for the first seven minutes of the second half, gaining a 40-14 edge to secure the victory.

Rose-Hulman improved to 13-3 overall and 8-1 in HCAC play, while Earlham dropped to 1-15 and 1-8 in league games.  The Fightin' Engineers host Transylvania University in the annual Wabash Valley Cancer Survivors Breast Cancer Awareness Game on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
